She is currently chief weeknight meteorologist for the KCAL-TV channel 9 station in Los Angeles. Taft is Jewish and was born in the San Francisco Bay Area to Moscow-born parents. She also spent portions of her formative years living in London, southern France, and Israel. After graduating high school from the Menlo School in Atherton, California, she moved to Los Angeles and attended the Annenberg School of Journalism at the University of Southern California. It was there that she discovered her passion for meteorology. She forecasted the weather for Annenberg’s life newscast, while she earned both her Broadcast Journalism and Political Science degrees. When she was just fourteen years old, Taft started working at the Bay Area’s Midpeninsula Community Media Center, a media production company with community-access cable channels. By age sixteen she was hosting her own show on travel and entertainment.
