Joanne Reid

Joanne Reid is the daughter of renowned athlete Beth Heiden. Like her mother, Reid was born in Madison, Wisconsin. Following in her mother's footsteps, Reid began cross country skiing early on in Houghton, Michigan. Her competitive career began at the age of thirteen when she attended her first Junior National Championships. Reid has risen through the ranks of Nordic skiers, securing two junior national titles, a top ten in the West Yellowstone Supertour, and several top twenties at her first US Nationals in 2010. Reid has never lost her age group in California, and is currently the highest ranked junior woman by USSA. She has unofficially won the California State Championship three times, but was excluded from the league by her high school. She secured a top twenty at her first World Junior Championships in Hinterzarten, Germany in January 2010, and helped the US relay to its eighth place finish. At the age of sixteen, she skied in the guest category for NCAA Western Regionals in Truckee, California, where she achieved two seventh places. In the fall of 2010 she went to ski for University of Colorado, Boulder, switching from University of California, Berkeley.
