Marie Robards

Person from United States of America

Marie Robards (born 1977) is a Texan who poisoned her father Steven Robards with barium acetate in 1993. Her case is unique due to her use of barium as a poison and was documented on Forensic Files. Robards stole the poison from her chemistry class and put it in a bean burrito which she gave to her father. He immediately started experiencing stomach pains. Marie made no effort to help her father and he was pronounced dead after being admitted to a nearby hospital. She later claimed her motive was to be with her separated mother. Robards did not get her wish as her mother moved to Florida. Instead, she was sent to live with her grandparents. Robards completed high school without incident and continued on to study theater at the University of Texas. In 1996 she became friends with Stacey High who learned of Robards' misdeeds after a Hamlet recital. High informed the police after eight months. The case was reopened and Robards was arrested after tests revealed the presence of barium acetate in her father's corpse. Marie Robards was tried and sentenced to 26 years in prison.  ( Wikipedia article )
