Nikolay Nikolayevich Sokolov Olympic athlete
Nikolay Nikolayevich Sokolov (Russian: Никола́й Никола́евич Соколов) (born 28 August 1930 in the village of Vasyunino, Vologodsky District, Vologda Oblast) was a Soviet athlete who competed mainly in the 3000 metre steeplechase. He trained at Lokomotiv in Vologda. He competed for the USSR in the 1960 Summer Olympics held in Rome, Italy in the 3000 metre steeplechase where he won the silver medal.

The 1960 Summer Olympics, officially known as the Games of the XVII Olympiad, was an international multi-sport event held from August 25 to September 11, 1960 in Rome, Italy. Rome had been awarded the organization of the 1908 Summer Olympics, but after the 1906 eruption of Mount Vesuvius, was forced to decline and pass the honors to London.
