Piyankara Jayaratne Politician
Unnanthi Piyankara Jayaratne, MP (born September 27, 1964) is a Sri Lankan politician and a member of the Parliament of Sri Lanka. He is the current Cabinet Minister of Civil Aviation in President Mahinda Rajapakse's Government and ex Deputy Speaker of Parliament. Educated at the Royal College Colombo and gained his higher education at the National Institute of Business Management. He was the General Secretary of the Youth Organisation, SLFP and became the SLFP organiser -for the Chilaw Electorate in 1998. From 1993 to 1998 he was a member of North Western Provincial Council and Minister of Fisheries, Agriculture and Irrigation of the North Western Provincial Council from 1998 to 2000. In 2000 he entered Parliament and was appointed Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs till 2001. He reappointed to Parliament in February 2008 and since June 2008 is the Deputy Speaker of Parliament.

Royal College Colombo (simply Royal) was founded in January 1835 in Colombo. It is considered to be the leading public school in Sri Lanka. The oldest public school in the country, it is a selective entry National School, as such it is funded by the central government as opposed to the provincial council providing both primary and secondary education. Royal College is often referred to as the Eton of Sri Lanka and it was selected as one of best innovative colleges in the world by Microsoft in 2009.

The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is one of the major political parties in Sri Lanka. It was founded by S.W.R.D Bandaranaike in 1951 and, since then, has been one of the two largest parties in the Sri Lankan political arena. It first came to power in 1956 and since then has been the predominant party in government on a number of occasions. The party is generally considered as having a socialist or progressive economic agenda and is often associated with hard-line nationalist Sinhala parties. The Sri Lanka Freedom Party is currently a part of the UPFA, the current ruling party of Sri Lanka. The current leader of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is Hon. Mahinda Rajapaksa, the current president of Sri Lanka.
