Reeko Moosa Manik
Moosa Manik, popularly known by his alias Reeko Moosa, is a prominent politician, actor, and businessman in the Republic of Maldives. Manik is currently: 1) the Parliament Member representing Hulhu Henveiru Constituency; 2) the Leader of MDP Parliamentary Group and 3) Acting Chairperson of the ruling Maldivian Democratic Party As a Parliamentarian Member, he represents the Hulhu Henveiru constituency of the capital island, Male'. Manik and his family owns Heavy Load Private Limited, a company based in the Republic of Maldives primarily involved in island reclamation and harbor development works. The government of Maldives have awarded numerous projects to Manik without a bidding process. Such projects included Thilafushi Corporation Limited (TCL) awarding a US$21 million (Rf269.8 million) reclamation project to Heavy Load on September 30, 2010 to reclaim 130 hectares from Thilafushi lagoon and Emboodhoo reclamation projects .

The Maldivian Democratic Party is the Second-largest political party in the Republic of Maldives. It is a party with its stated goal being the promotion of human rights and democracy in the Maldives. This party won the first ever multi-party elections in the Maldives with the support from all the other political parties in the 2008 elections against the former dictator Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. The Maldivian Democratic Party failed in the first two rounds of the 2008 presidential elections and called for a coalition for change against the then dictator. All the Political Parties joined the alliance of national unity and won the election. Maldivian Democratic Party has the largest number of members among all the political parties in the Maldives. There had not been political parties in the Maldives since 1952. The MDP initially submitted its registration on February 24, 2001. In 2001 MDPs first president was Mr. Gasim Ibrahim Although the Maldivian Constitution allows political parties to operate, the MDP's application was rebuffed.
