Tom Buffington

Tom Buffington (born January 3, 1945) is an American businessman who lives in Austin, Texas. Tom is the father of Kimberly Buffington, wife of Dennis Quaid. Tom Buffington was born on January 3, 1945, in Newport, Arkansas, to Dewey Buffington and Nora Franklin (née Armstrong) Buffington. Tom was the youngest of four boys and as a young boy spent time helping his father put up real estate signs on his properties. Tom attended Swanee Prep Academy where he lettered in both football and basketball. From there, Tom then went to the University of Arkansas where he majored in business. Buffington moved to Austin in 1968 after graduating from university and began his career in 1969 as a salesman for Nash Phillips Copus (NPC). NPC was an Austin based national homebuilding company which eventually grew into the largest private homebuilder in the Southern United States. Tom rose through the ranks at NPC to eventually become president of NPC's Austin and Central Texas Division in 1980. In 1987, Tom started his own homebuilding company, Buffington Homes, which went on to become the second largest homebuilding company in Austin, Texas.
